I support organisations and independent practices with questions of direction, development and expression.
Our work concerns the decisions that shape what they do, how they operate and what they become. It often begins where the answer is not yet a particular strategy, brand, service or product.
These questions do not always resolve neatly within a single design discipline. The work may involve strategy, systems, experience, identity, communication or technology, but these are means rather than ends.
Our work, thinking, and the forms it takes develop together through the people, knowledge and circumstances of the present. The most appropriate form emerging around the people it serves today, and the futures they desire. An iterative form of making that tests its own assumptions, reveals possibilities and builds around those it serves.
Commissions can develop over time: each piece of work providing new perspectives and understanding to build upon. Rather than repeatedly beginning again, decisions, capabilities and expressions accumulate into something increasingly coherent.
The work may involve a certain degree of complexity, but what emerges must be coherent, appropriate and apparently simple. A natural extension of an organisation, which is seemingly inevitable.
Much of this work concerns decisions, ambitions and possibilities that are necessarily private. Care and discretion is therefore fundamental to the practice.
What emerges must belong naturally to an organisation: an expression of its own character and judgement, developed through the people, knowledge and circumstances that shape it.
